I'm sure you'll all be surprised to see these next pictures! No zebras, giraffes or tents in the bush...yet...
When we got to our gate yesterday at the Calgary Airport, our KLM people announced that there was a slight problem with one of the hydraulic hoses...it was leaking. ('Slight' was my sarcasm btw).
They told us that it was getting fixed and they'd keep us posted. Well, time ticked away and the Captain finally apologized as he told us the flight was cancelled and would be leaving Saturday at 4:30 instead. So...this really messed things up for us as we have other connections with independent airlines in Africa that would be missed...hotel accommodations that would have to be forfeited, and a whole day of safari-ing missed.
Thanks goodness we have a bunch of very eloquent and talented people in this bunch and the 6 of us took advantage of the hotel and taxi vouchers and made our way to the Hotel to brain storm. (Actually, Brian got us a rental van for free...wait...7 dollars...and Rosemarie has to take her share out of her souvenir budget! lol)
By the end of the night, we managed to arrange connecting flights etc. that only cost us 1 missed day of our adventure. BUT, in order to get to Nairobi in the best possible time to make our connections, we have a 'milk run' of flights going through very 'interesting' places in Africa...like Djibouti...didn't even know it existed. We've informed our people so they can come looking for us if we get 'Taken'...(it's a movie for those who don't know...and worth watching if you like a nail-biter).
Everything happens for a reason, and we're just rolling with it and I will keep you posted!!!
This was BEFORE the announcement...
...and then...
waiting...waiting...waiting...
...solving...solving...solving...
Well, it IS and adventure and we haven't even left the country yet!!!!
I'll be back soon...
