Good-bye Zoe

A few weeks ago we had to put our little 1 year old Boston Terrier, Zoe down. She had Craniomandibular osteopathy. It is a bone disease, particularly in terrier breeds. The bones in her jaw grew rapidly and large and fused her jaw so she could only open it about 1 cm. She couldn't even chew her food! Poor little girl. We were sad to say good-bye.

I explained to the kids that she went to heaven and Brianna pipes up: "dead dogs can walk to heaven?" After a little bit more of an explanation, she says "I don't want to die, I want to be free with my family." I have no idea where that came from as I made it clear that Zoe was much happier in heaven with no pain! It was quite a conversation. We miss her and because of our bad luck with dogs, we probably won't go down that road again. We do have Brommel and he is an important member of the family, and quite frankly...I think he likes being a singleton in his 'species'.
