We had some time to kill on Saturday after we left Bluebay...before our flight to Nairobi. We hired a guy to take us on a tour of a spice farm...Zanzibar is known as Spice Island.
Nutmeg
Limes
Our 'guide' made these little cups for us to collect all the spices we were learning about.
Lemon Grass. One of my favourites. Makes the best tea. And apparently good to drink in the evening as it's good for the belly.
When this tree is cut, a natural antiseptic oozes from it. He is demonstrating what happens when you rub it on your skin. It eventually disappeared and left a sticky, clear layer on the skin.
Aloe Vera
Vanilla beans.
Pepper...at the 'green' stage...then red...
I was playing with a 'touch me not' plant...very cool.
This is the spice boy...he climbed trees for us to get samples of different spices.
Jack fruit
Sesame Seeds
Red Bananas...Den loves them. Not me. Not a big banana fan.
By this time, I was melting...dying of thirst and grateful for the tour...but really wanted some cool air, and WATER! The boy who climbed the trees for us made these crowns, tie and basket out of palm fronds...they were so cute, but we couldn't take them on the plane so we had to leave them behind.
