Well, Lewis has begun a new seasaon of football and only 2 practices in and he's already got an interception and touchdown! He's an agile little dude with a stereotypical drive to "hammer" the opposing team with amazing force! Hopefully this season I'll get great video clips of his moves on the field...unlike last year where all we could see was the ground as I would get distracted and forget I was filming....oops! This boy can play...he's holding back a whole pack of guys here..and then just "walkin' away". It was pouring rain today...and cold...but he made it through in good spirits!
Jen and Lew participated in a science fair at the school. They had intersting displays...Jen and her partner did a project on mold of all things...they grew mold on bread in different settings. One grew in a cold, dark room and the other in a warm, dark room. Maybe she's on her way to becoming a micro-biologist??? Not...you can't have interesting conversation about Raven Simone or Ashley Tisdale with a piece of moldy bread, nor an agar plate growing bacteria... Jen's strengths are definitely in communication...I think she'll make a great relationship counsellor. She's all about LOVE and PEACE...come to think of it, she should have been born in THAT era...would have fit right in!
Lewis was going to do a fabulous project that involved aquiring a chicken (whole, freshly killed) and plucking the feathers, skin it, de-bone it etc...and boil the bones and put them back together in the form of a skeleton and mount it on a base. I did this project in Grade 7 and entered the science fair and one 1st prize (a whopping 2.75 for the winner!), so I figured it would be a cool project to "re-live" (not that I looked forward to the stench of chicken flesh being boiled of the bones in a pot of hot, bleach water! Turned me off chicken for a few years!). Anyhow, that didn't work because it seems we have a shortage of live chickens running amuck up here in the black hole...so we had to come up with plan 'B', and quickly...which of course had something to do with the Oil Sands...because his dad was in charge of Plan B...so he used a cordless drill (a true boy) and a yogurt container half-full of coloured water and off he would go, spinning it with the drill to show centrifugal force which is one of the steps in getting the oil out of the sand....
And then Taylor decided to take on the white board in the gym during phys. ed....he slammed into the wall, then slid directly into the metal brush holder on the board and the result.....
...three stitches...it looks worse than 3 stitches worth...but after a 4 hour wait in emerg., he "emerged" no worse for wear...or is it "ware"...anyway....he's fine in other words and besides all the boys in the house forgetting--and him being the recipient of some nudging, bumping, slapping and punching (all in the name of brothery (and fatherly!) love)...all the girls at school decided he needed to be hugged multiple times! (what's with that anyway...???) to take away the pain and suffering....ya, whatever!
And then....we had the wonderful surprise of Char and John coming up for the weekend...John is Char's fiance (well, the engagement is very soon), so we can celebrate Char's graduation from the Youth and Childcare Counselling Program and of course meet John...he's super nice and reminds us a lot of Dennis...even she claims this to be true! So of course he's a great guy.
Kate had her "buddy" Jamie over Friday night as well, so it was a very full house...we enjoy him hanging out with us on Friday nights and after some chit-chat, games and food...Mac, Kate and Jamie decided to check out the constellations from the hot tub...whilst Dennis caught up on a few z's after a very long week of emergencies out on site that needed his attention!
Also, Mac has been officially dubbed "brace face" (endearingly of course!) as he had his first of many surgeries on his teeth to attach a gold chain to a tooth that is being stubborn and not descending from the gums...it's attached to the brace wire and is adjusted often as it "scoots" down into place...he has some missing teeth and will require some prosthetics along the way...by the time 2 years is up...and $10,000.00...he will have perfect teeth...he better anyway!
