Let's Eat Cake!

When I drove up a week ago, to Ft. McMurray...I was actually excited the closer I got.  Of course because I knew within a couple days, I'd be a Nana to an amazing little boy...but also, I would get to see the people I have come to love so much.  I did my fair share of complaining about Ft. Mac over the 9.5 years we've lived here, and I think the saying "you don't know what you have till it's gone" really rang true for me.  Feeling loved and needed are what most people thrive on in life (although some will say they don't NEED to be needed...I don't believe them ;)) and I came to discover that I am loved by many in this city and I love them! (I know, I'm a little slow...)  It's been great to see everyone and spend time with some of my favourite...and I still have a few days that I am filling up with some of those favourites!  I really have missed sitting in Nancy's back yard gabbing under the umbrella; 10k walks with Beck in the trails; lunch with Bill; Zumba with the girls; late night therapy sessions with Karen (and I mean LATE nights...or rather early mornings!); visiting Kim and Cora; laughing with Shauna; getting reflexology and chatting with Adrianne; deep conversations about life and children with Cinda; visit teaching with Amy; reality checks with Julie...and the list goes on.  Today, Karen called and said "hey, I made your birthday cake for you today!"  I just grinned!  Seriously...my birthday is in November, but last year--well, I was a little preoccupied, not to mention out of the country, on my birthday and Karen makes me this fabulous Coconut layer cake every year and I wouldn't have it any other way! (She is actually a pro baker and EVERYTHING she makes is to-die-for.)  So today, it was my un-birthday and I'm so grateful to Karen for thinking of me and spending HOURS on this amazing cake.  Seriously, this woman is B-U-S-Y and took the time to do this for me.  I will remember this forever.  Thank you Karen!

We may have gotten a little carried away with it's deliciousness!
